Happy Hump Day. From the days when flying boats looked like boats with wings, here is the Loire 102.

I give the Italians and the French credit for making some of the ugliest and most awesome aircraft of the 1930s.

When I was a kid, I wanted to get my pilot’s license. Our camp is on a small river in northern NY and there was one resident that flew in on their small Cessna seaplane. I thought (and still do) it would be the coolest thing in the world to fly into my camp, land, and pull a plane up to the dock! Hmm, do they call it landing when you touch down in water? Ha!

Landing is landing, whether on land or water. And yes, that would be awesome.

That’s not a hump, this is a hump:

If you had a space capsule you could do a splashdown, but that’s not a great procedure for a fixed wing aircraft.

Every time I look at a historic plane I think: how big is the toilet? Cause I am gonna have to pee in a couple of hours.

I used to do plenty of splashdowns when I’d ride my bike off the end of the dock!

The S.55 is probably my favorite of the flying boats. Italo Balbo led a flight of the from Italy to the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair so there’s a bunch of photos of them flying over the city. Really crazy in hindsight but there is still a street and monument named after Balbo in Chicago.

I’ve considered a Lake 250 for a personal aircraft. They seem to be neat flying boats.

That would have been quite a sight. And probably quite a sound, too.

You seem to live in a place with plenty of water, too. Might work.

I’ve thought the same thing. Even my “home” airport has a sea lane. There was a Lake 250 based there, but the owner recently sold it.
